Pictured Rocks October 2024

Took a quick weekend trip up north at the end of October 2024. I didn’t really have a plan on where I wanted to go, all I knew was I wanted to see some fall colors. Like normal I was being indecisive so I stayed in Mackinaw after taking a few pictures on the way up. After thinking more about it I figured I might as well go all the way up to Pictured Rocks, somewhere I had been dying to go for a while. I made a stop at Taquamenon Falls on the way as well. Starting off it was grey outside and wasn’t that great of colors, but once I arrived in Munising later that day everything changed. The sun came out and I started to check out some waterfalls. I had no idea how many there were in the area, so I had to plan the days accordingly. Also there was no service most of the time once I was in the National Lakeshore, so I had to screen shot directions and locations prior. What an amazing place, I wish I could have spent more time. I shot five rolls of film, and quite a few polaroids. I shot two rolls of Ektar 100, two Portra 400, and one Psych Blues #5. I visited five waterfalls, two lighthouses, and went on the two hour Pictured Rocks boat tour which I highly recommend for the best view of the whole lake shore. The bars were fun, food was good, and hotels were cheap. What a time! Below is some of the images I really enjoyed from the trip.

Along the way I got two in camera double exposures I really liked. The cool thing about the first one is the flag was shot in Charlevoix, and then the bridge second later on. I like the connecting of the two cities that are about an hour apart, in one photo. The second one is a cool car I found right near the bridge the next morning. I always thought it might be cool to get a double exposure of a car and the bridge, happy with the results!

Below are a few of my favorite photos from the Psych Blues #5 roll I shot up there. I think it’s great to have a completely opposite film in another camera to get a different look to the trip!

First & Last

On my way to the UP I figured I had to try and get a “first of the roll” shot of the Mackinac Bridge. On the two hour drive back I noticed the view was nice so I shot the last frames of the same roll of the bridge from far away. I was super happy to get a “last of the roll” as well. Cool to see both sides of the roll like this of the same subject. More photos from this trip soon!

Mackinac Bridge

Pulled up on a little solo trip to Mackinac 4th of July weekend to take some pictures of the bridge since I never had a chance in the past. Wanted to shoot some double exposures, and Psych Blues film. The first one is extra special to me because the first photo is shot from the city and second photo is shot on Mackinac Island.

2023 Favorites

A few of my favorite pictures I shot in 2023. Some seen, some not. More to come in 2024! 💗

Shinola hotel 35mm doubel exposures

Back in September I had the opportunity to take some in camera double exposures for the Shinola hotel. Was super fun to make it happen. Shot with Nikon F-100 & Kodak Portra 400. Here’s the results.

"Skaters Eye" Thrasher Magazine December 2023

Beyond hyped to have a feature in the December 2023 issue of Thrasher. I sent my pictures for this almost two years prior and honestly thought it may never happen. I was surprised and super happy it came to light. I love that it features so many of my friends and some of my favorite photos over the years. Thank you Joe Brook, Alex Aho, and Thrasher. On to the next one!

Joe Louis Arena Tunnel

This place has meant a lot to me over the years. My first memories of it are going to my first Red Wings games back in the day with my dad. If you ever went you probably remember the tunnels being filled with people going to the parking garage, some drunk, some not, but they would be yelling “mooo” like cows. Once Joe Louis Arena closed and the Red Wings moved in to LCA the tunnels got shut down. Since then the place remained on my mind, it’s so unique and cool looking inside and out. I wanted to get some photos there really bad. Randomly I saw Sprutte was skating in there when it was closed so I asked him if we could go back, and we did a week or so later. I figured it would be sort of dark so I shot my first roll of Fuji Superia 1600. My initial thought going there was to get a “first of the roll” shot, (pictured above) once I took that he did this wallride a bunch of times. Months later I was super hyped to get the skate photo in North Skate Mag. That day I shot photos in there like I would never have the chance again, and it was a super fun.

Years later after the session that got into the mag they rehabbed the tunnels and opened them to the public. There is a new apartment building being built so they made the parking garage useful again. When I saw that I had to get back to take some more photos. It is really fun to wallride since they are naturally curved. This time I went with Khaled and he got a switch frontside wallride. This photo ended up in Skate Jawn. I shot the same photo with another camera using the new Lomo Turquoise that they re-released this year. Cool to see them side by side and the differences. It was also nice this day because the light was shining through right down the middle.

As the tunnels were opened to the public I became obsessed, and kept going back. I knew Psych Blues film would look cool so I shot a bunch. This was the test film #5/6. I shot almost half a roll in hopes that some would be cool. I’m super happy with how these came out!

The most recent time I was there Pat and I wanted to get a photo, something easy. I told him a nice clean switch wallride would be cool. We handled with the digital cam.

Super happy they decided to open this place up to the public. I don’t think i’ll ever get tired of this place. It’s fun to skate, looks cool, and brings back great memories. Til’ next time!
