In 2014 the city of Detroit gave Community Push the ok to build a DIY skate park at the abandoned Wigle Recreation Center in Midtown Detroit. With the help of local sponsors, plenty of fellow skateboarders, rollerbladers, bmx, and even a few homeless friends we built "The Wig". We saw an impact immediately. I'm thankful for the opportunity. It is great to see everyone join together for a common goal. Community Push is a non profit organization founded by my friend Derrick Dykas. He has been giving back since I can remember. The organization doesn't just build skate parks but has board drives to collect boards to give to kids who can't afford them. In 2016 the city told us we have one more year. We hope this isn't true but we are continuing to build anyway. As of 2018 they informed us the property was sold to a developer but we had until the end of summer. We still have hope for now as it’s still alive. The overall goal is to get a new indoor park at a different location that would serve as our headquarters. The wig will always be my favorite.
