Pictured Rocks October 2024

Took a quick weekend trip up north at the end of October 2024. I didn’t really have a plan on where I wanted to go, all I knew was I wanted to chase some fall colors. I saw plenty of colors on the way up going through to Charlevoix, Boyne, and Mackinaw. Like normal I was being indecisive so I stayed in Mackinaw after taking a few pictures on the way. After thinking about it I figured I might as well go all the way up, meaning Pictured Rocks, somewhere i’d been dying to see in person. The hope was seeing the peak of fall colors. I figured I could stop at Taquamenon Falls on the way as well. Starting off it was grey outside and wasn’t that great of colors, but once I arrived in Munising everything changed. The sun came out and I was off to chase some waterfalls. I had no idea how many there were in the area, so I had to plan the days accordingly. Also there was no service once I was in the National Lakeshore, so I had to screen shot directions prior. What an amazing place, I wish I could have spent more time. It seemed like once I found one waterfall i’d find three more. I shot five rolls of film, and quite a few polaroids. I shot two rolls of Ektar 100, two Portra 400, and one Psych Blues #5. I saw about five waterfalls, two lighthouses, and went on the two hour Pictured Rocks boat tour which I highly recommend for the best view of the whole lake shore. The bars were fun, food was good, and hotels were cheap. What a time! Below is some of the images I really enjoyed from the trip.

Along the way I got two in camera double exposures I really liked. The cool thing about the first one is the flag was shot in Charlevoix, and then the bridge second later on. I like the connecting of the two cities that are about an hour apart, in one photo. The second one is a cool car I found right near the bridge the next morning. I always thought it might be cool to get a double exposure of a car and the bridge, happy with the results!

Below are a few of my favorite photos from the Psych Blues #5 roll I shot up there. I think it’s great to have a completely opposite film in another camera to get a different look to the trip!
